Vintage consoles and game cartridges from the Virginia Tech Gaming and Media Effects Research Laboratory (VT G.A.M.E.R. Lab) were featured in a Winter 2010-11 Virginia Tech Magazine piece on "unusual classroom supplies" in use around the university.  The feature, which was authored by Jess Tuel and used photography by Kelsey Kradel, showcased an Atari 2600 console and Nintendo Entertainment System and several Atari game cartridges.  Other items in the feature included a stage dagger from a theatre course, a toy car from a house planning course, scuba gear and mussels from a conservation center, samples of fungi from a course on molds, Lego blocks from an engineering course, and horse teeth from a veterinary medicine course.
