Undergraduate Lab Associate

Marcela (Marci) Weber is a rising senior at Sewanee: The University of the South where she is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Spanish. She is interning at the Virginia Tech Gaming and Media Research Lab through the NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program on "Understanding and Preventing Societal Violence," where she is researching reinforcement of anti-violence attitudes through exposure to violent media content. She is interested in how media portrayals of violence can be used for advocacy and awareness of violence and victimization issues. At Sewanee, she has researched protective factors common to intimate partner violence and child abuse with Dr. Sherry Hamby, and is a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society for Psychology. Additionally, she has fundraised and promoted awareness at Sewanee for children abducted by rebel armies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda through Invisible Children and eXile International. She hopes to pursue a graduate degree in clinical psychology and conduct trauma therapy.
